What is the development timeline for Gardens by the Bay?

A4

After the International Master Plan Design Competition was held and the winners announced in Sep 06, the refinement of the master plan took place from Oct 07 onwards.  Site preparation works commenced in April 2007 and construction of first phase of the Gardens is in progress and estimated to complete in 2011.

Q5
How can the public get updates on the progress of this project?

A5

Currently groups from the public sector and grassroots organisations can write in if they are interested to understand more about the project.  They will be briefed on the Gardens and be able to view an updated model of the Gardens and the adjoining nursery.  However, since the Gardens by the Bay Staging Office is located in a construction site, we do not accept walk-in visitors for safety reasons.

Q6
Is the Gardens by the Bay environmentally sustainable?

A6

Being fully aware of global issues related to climate change, NParks is exploring sustainable energy and water technologies for the Gardens.  This includes research on energy modelling and the latest cooling technologies for the Cooled Conservatories at Bay South. The commissioned study has shown that by applying a combination of the latest cooling technologies, the energy consumption for the Conservatories will be lower than that of a comparable commercial building of similar size in Singapore.  Some of these results are being validated at the Prototype Glasshouses, which are already in operation at the Hort Park at Pasir Panjang.
